JP to contest polls independently: Ershad

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday reiterated that his party would contest the next national polls independently as people want a change now.

“Democracy has become dysfunctional…people want a change, they don’t want any ineffective parliament,” he told a wayside rally at Kalihati in the district.

Voicing dissatisfaction over the law and order situation in educational institutions, the former President said, “These days we see arms in students’ hands instead of books and pens. If things go on like this, the country’s existence will be at stake. So, we need a change.”

Introducing Tangail-3 by-election JP candidate Syed Abu Yusuf Abdullah Tuhin, Ershad urged his party followers to work sincerely to ensure Tuhin’s win. “Send out a message of change by electing Tuhin in the polls.”

JP secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Presidium Member Sohel Rana, Abul Kashem, district JP general secretary Abdus Salam addressed the rally held with Upazila JP president Anwar Hossain Ratan Siddiqui in the chair.
